Seaotter 23
It was my first Sea Otter in 2023 being with Brian, Dominik and Helge at this most important bilcycle event in the United States. Going up and down by bicycle opened a lot of nice rides.
On the last day of the event, after closing the booth, we decided to take a longer route back to Monterey. We headed north on Barloy Canyon Rd, a quiet, narrow road that had been part of the road bike race during the event, offering a peaceful ride without any cars.
Helge was riding his iconic bike, while Brian and Dominik were on e-bikes. I had a folding road bike that Brian had organized for me, which turned out to be perfect for the ride. It was a great way to end the day—hilly with some up-and-down terrain, but mostly descending, as Laguna Seca, where the event was held, is about 400 meters higher than Monterey.
We reached the coastline between Sand City and Marina, where we found a nice bike trail. Despite a bit of headwind and chilly weather, we enjoyed beautiful conditions as we made our way back into Monterey, passing Old Fisherman’s Wharf. To wrap up the ride, we enjoyed a post-ride beer together while watching the sunset.
