Carlsbad to San Diego
After saturday´s 130k ride towards the inland i decided to drive by car to Carlsbad and start a straight down to San Diego. One reason because i´m not alowed to ride a bike in a military zone.
Right east of San Clemente the military area Cape Pendleton starts which makes it unpossible to ride a bicycle being no US citizen. So i jumped into the car to hot Carlsbad and start from there, it would have been to long anyways. Downwards i kept my ride along the coast line having some preety nice views. I also had to cross some towns using a lot of bike paths which were helping to avoid heavy traffic. As it was sunday traffic was not that bad and so i came closer to San Diego seeing already the skyline ahead.
I was remembering San Diego a bit from some other travels but this time it was the first with the bike. Hitting town i decided to first go to the harbour. Next to nice training ships like the 3 mast Star of India i also came along the USS Midway Museum which is a aircraft carrier right in front of downtown.
As usual a coffee and a cake was my next goal. So i headed to Market Street where they had some sunday activities going on and so Market was a pedestrian zone. Downtown was quite empty so early and so i could ride out of town quite unspectacular without cars.
The way back i decided after a bit on the same track to do different and ride more inside the country to also hit some hills and get the training more excited. So i went direction Torrey Hills and furtheron to Fairbanks Ranch Country Club.
From there it was an incrdible nice ride through the countryside looping around San Dieguito Reservoir on Olivenhain Road. Pure nature was my riding partner reaching step by step again coast line to return to my car.
