The Oilprince - Malacka Heights
The summer of 2020 was still challenging, though the first wave of COVID-19 in Europe had been managed. Tourism in popular areas had increased.
Austria implemented a negative test requirement for travelers returning from Croatia starting in September. Despite these challenges, it was worth returning to our friend's apartment in Rogoznica for some peaceful time away from tourists, which made for a perfect ending to the summer.
Upon returning, I had a new idea for a ride and a follow-up video to the spring's Winnetou 4.0 - Lake Silver project. I found a route with a climb that promised good visuals. The new video, titled "Old Shatterhand and the Oilprince," would compare the speedboat ride to Primosten with a bike ride to Trogir. With the speedboat in the water, the filming idea came together. The boat trip was amazing, offering a cool day at sea and a stop at the harbor in Primosten for coffee and beer.
The bike ride itself took place in perfect weather. I started early to avoid the heat and enjoy the peaceful morning atmosphere. The first highlight was Trogir, about 27 kilometers in, and I arrived to find the town almost empty, without tourists or boats in the harbor. It felt like the town was on vacation itself.
Next, I headed towards Split, the capital of the region. Between Trogir and Split, there’s a beautiful climb to Malacka, offering fantastic views over Split and Trogir from the top.
For the return journey, I chose a more inland route with small but good roads, taking me to a main road connecting Sibenik and Trogir. I then made my way through small villages back to Rogoznica, with the final stretch offering a stunning view over Primosten and Rogoznica. It was a high-value ride, filled with great impressions and beautiful scenery.
